Colossal Buddha Statue of Rambadagalla

Rambdagalla is quite a foreign word for most Sri Lankan people and which is a small town in southern Sri Lanka and has significant reason to be popular on the island, Rambadagalla is not an average remote city anymore, and it is transformed into a leading Buddhist pilgrimage site on southern Sri Lanka with the exposure of one of the largest Buddha statues in Modern Era.

Sri Lanka is a leading Buddhist nation in the world, where the majority of people are believing in the teaching of Buddha. The history of Buddhism on the island dates back many millennia. According to historical notes, the Buddhism was formally introduced to the island in 2nd century BCE, however, Buddha himself visited the island in 6th century BCE.

Sri Lanka is a leading destination to study Buddhism and the island is visited by a large number of Buddhist pilgrims every year, Sri Lanka is home to a large number of important Buddhists temples, some of them are dating back to the pre-Christian era such as SriMaha bodhi, which was introduced to the island in 2nd century BC. The Colossal 67.5 feet high Buddha Statue at Rambadagalla Vidyasagara Temple in the Rideegama DS division will be revealed on April 30. This is thought to be the world’s tallest rock-slashed situated Buddha picture.
